Our little girl is a decade old! It is easy for me to remember Erika as a baby, yet when I see the beautiful, smart, funny, tall girl in front of me, I know that these 10 years have been full and challenging and fun and make me so very proud. Erika is a caring, compassionate, mature, inquisitive girl. She has thousands of questions and so many stories....there is not enough time in the day for her to say all the words she wants to say!! It is fun to have a chatty girl, but it can be frustrating when I ask her to do a chore and she goes to do it and then runs back to me to tell me a story from earlier in the day. We are working on keeping our focus, doing our work in a timely manner, and then we have the rest of the day for play and talking! Erika is constantly wondering how she can invent things to make her life better....some are pretty smart, like a wearable tablet holder so she can stand up and type at the same time, and others are not so great, like a rotating shelf pulley system...basically a bookcase. But I love her mind for coming up with different ideas! Her teachers told the class that Erika may one day become a millionaire with all her invention ideas....and Erika is suppose to attribute it all to her 4th grade teacher! She has a ton of questions about spiritual issues as well as things that occur in the natural world. It is fun to have conversations with her now and wrestle through some of her tougher questions. Erika continues her love for sports, participating in both soccer and basketball this year. She is quite talented, and whatever natural ability she lacks, she makes up for with her work ethic. It was a lot of fun watching her in both sports....she was very successful in both areas. Her last year as a single digit age was not without its challenges....she can get very moody and emotional over things that 't seem they don't need quite the emotional reaction. There were a few stomping out of the room, slamming doors, and unnecessary screaming how unfair life was. But these moods didn't stick around long and she was back to her goofy, fun-loving self! Erika loves climbing trees, soccer, writing little stories, watching Dancing With the Stars, holding and playing with babies, Star Wars, and being a crossing guard at school. She does not like lasagna, sleeping on the floor, doing chores, music class, pizza and being rushed into making a decision. She is kind, mature, can talk easily with anyone of any age, a leader, inclusive to everyone she is around. She is working to control some parts of her personality, such as her desire to be first no matter who is in her way and letting her brother and sister have their own thoughts without her telling them what to do. We are so incredibly blessed with our little Boo Bear and cannot wait to see what joy and fun and dreams the next ten years of raising Erika bring to our family. We love you so very much Little Boo!
