What a huge responsibility it is to be a parent! This thought occurs to me quite often, usually when I am being a less than stellar mom. However, I also enjoy giving myself praise every now and then for letting the girls see me serving or living a life that I pray they also live. For example:
I love my sister. And I especially love that she lives so close that we see each other practically every day. I love that I have two daughters who can see how sisters should act toward one another. I know my relationship with Sarah is not always the relationship that sisters share....we are truly blessed! So I pray that Erika and Laurel can take our example of a sisterhood and share the same bond as they get older. I want them to laugh with each other (Matt can attest to the fact that there is not a time when Sarah comes over that we don't have an absolute giggle fit). I want them to see us sharing in each others lives by asking questions and being genuinely concerned with each other. I want them to see us sharing meals together, surprising each other with an unexpected Diet Vanilla Coke, praying and worshipping together. I want them to be best friends like me and Sarah.
Our church went through a growth spurt in the past 8 months. We have had 7 babies born since January. I like to think I started it and everyone strove to be like me, but actually I was already 5 months pregnant when we moved so all the other ladies had a mind of their own! Anyway, we have had the opportunity to serve all these new families by providing meals for them. What a blessing a church family is! As I was making pie to take with my meal tonight, I watched Erika watch me and realized that she is old enough to see that I can serve my Christian family in so many ways....baking pie being one of them. I have taken Erika with me a couple times to deliver the meal I made and will do so again tonight. It is important for her to know that friendships and relationships are just as important with our Christian family as well as our immediate family.
So, I will continue to pray that God give me the strength to be a responsible parent and use me to be an example to my daughters as well as to others who may be watching. And, I will pray that Erika and Laurel grow to be responsible, loving, mature women who love the Lord, love each other, and love their friends.

What a great post! I've always thought of you as a good example and someone who lets Christ shine through her life. Your girls are so blessed to have you as a mom!
