Sisterly Conversations

On the way to church on Sunday, this conversation took place in the back between the girls.

Laurel: I want to be a butterfly!
Erika: You can't be a butterfly.
Laurel: I want to be a BUTTERFLY!
Erika: Laurel, God cannot transform you into an insect or a creature.

*Pause*

Laurel: I want to be a butterfly!

It is so much fun to hear all the vocabulary words the kids pick up from who knows where sometimes.  And, to hear them voice the information they learn in school or Sunday school or even from some of the shows they watch.

And Laurel is very persistent.

*

For those of you avid readers, you may recall the last post had an asterisk in it with no explanation.  That is partly because I forgot to type the story at the bottom of the last post, but as luck would have it, I now have a new post!
When I was pregnant with both Laurel, we didn't want to find out the sex of the baby.  The ultrasound technician was very good about using "baby" instead of a pronoun when we saw Laurel at 20 weeks.  So, we made it to almost her whole growing period without knowing if she was a she or a he!  About a week before Laurel was born, I went to see my doctor for a regular checkup.  She knew we did not know the sex of the baby, but I guess she had a mental slip because as she was looking at my chart making sure I was still healthy and getting everything in order for a delivery any day, she blurted out, "Okay, and you're having a girl....".  She said it so off-handed that at first I wasn't sure she even was looking at my information!  I was totally convinced Laurel was going to be a boy.  Anyway, I didn't say anything to her and tried to forget that I just heard I was having another girl.  But, alas, she was a girl and I am so thankful that God knew better than I did that I needed two girls close in age who would grow up to be best friends and great big sisters!  And we can now have girls day of fun together!

Lest we forget just how adorable Laurel was as a baby.

Girls Night Out

Every since the doctor told us Laurel was a girl*, I have been dreaming about the day when my two girls and I were able to do girly outings.  Today was the day!  While Matt and Levi stayed home, Erika, Laurel and I headed out to spend the evening with each other.

Our first stop was Wendy's for Frosty's.  Erika had vanilla, Laurel had chocolate, but they both claimed chocolate as their favorite.

Stop #2 was the beauty shop.  Erika has been talking for two days about how excited she was to go to the beauty shop and get her hair cut.  I got my hair cut on Saturday and after seeing how short my hair is (short!) she has wanted to get her hair cut too.

Her long hair before.

Let's take a trip down memory lane to Erika's first haircut by her mommy.  Poor baby!

Erika was so happy to be in the chair and ready for her hair cut!

Laurel, however, was terrified that I was going to make her sit in the chair and get her hair cut.  She told me she is never getting her hair cut, that it is going to be long forever!

Erika, however, did so well sitting still for her hair cut.

And she now has shorter hair and bangs out of her eyes!  Super cute!

And, our final stop was Target where we bought a birthday gift for a friend.

It was so much fun spending the day with my two beautiful girls!

Week in Pictures

To celebrate Erika's graduation from preschool, we went to the zoo on Friday!  Daddy and the kids liked looking at the zebra.

The weather turned from summer like to rain, but we managed to get out and scoot during a sun break.

But, the majority of our time has been spent inside playing.  Fortunately, the kids play so nicely with each other!

Laurel and Levi helped Daddy fix up Laurel's bike so it was a better fit for her.  She is growing taller and taller!
