Turkey Trot

On Saturday, the kids participated in a Turkey Trot at the high school in town.  Every grade level ran a set distance....Levi ran a half lap, Laurel ran one full lap, and Erika ran 1.5 laps.  There were not very many participants, but that way the kids got a better chance of winning.  And win they did!

Ready for racing

Levi raced with 6 other pre-K and kindergarteners.  He was very happy to be on the track and he diligently stayed in his line.  He got 5th place and had a lot of fun!!

Laurel raced with two other little girls.  She was determined to be the winner!

And she was!  After being in second place for about half the race, she turned on her jets and finished first!

And won a frozen turkey!!  She told us that it was a good thing she won so we could have turkey for Thanksgiving.  Laurel is quite proud to be the family provider.  She named the turkey Sparkle Bob.

Erika raced against her friend, Hayden.  She came in second place (of the two).  She had a great time, though, and was proud of herself for running the entire time!!

I am very proud of the kids for running the race and doing something that might not have been comfortable for them.  They are the greatest!!

Salon

On Veteran's Day, Erika opened a salon in her room!  She had been planning it for quite a while and was super excited to open.  She told her grandma and aunt that it would be open from 10:00 to 6:00 and they could come whenever they wanted, which they both did.  Her salon is quite diverse....you can have your hair done, your nails done, or a massage.  It's great!

Her sign letting us know we were in the right place.

Laurel wanted to participate as well so she opened a library right across the hall from the salon.  Except she charged you $1 to borrow a book, so it was more of a book store??

Erika's salon had games in the waiting area.

I had a beautiful manicure done!

More excited customers

There was some entertainment as well

Erika is really getting into imaginative play.  She loves creating different worlds and plays for her and her siblings.  I love that she opened a salon in her room!  It is always fun to be around her!

Date Night

Aunt Sarah took each kid out for a dinner date individually this past week.  They love having special time by themselves with their aunt!

Laurel chose to go to Shari's.  She had mini sliders, French fries, and "a huge chocolate milkshake!"

Erika chose to go to Panda Express, where she dined on her favorite, orange chicken and root beer.

And, the cheap date, Levi chose to go to McDonald's for a hamburger and chocolate milkshake.  He wore his "fancy shirt", one with a tie printed on it.  He was so proud to be on a date!

Halloween

We survived our first super rainy and windy and non-ideal Halloween weather holiday!  Friday night, we celebrated with trunk or treat at our church.  We had a huge turnout and the kids came home with a ton of candy!

After soccer games to start our Halloween, we went to the George Fox football pre-game party.  There were games, snacks, face painting and candy.  The kids had a great time!  We were going to stay for the game, but it started to down pour just before kickoff.  So, the kids and I headed home while Matt stayed for the game.

That night, with the wind and rain not letting up too much, we got into our costumes and headed out.  It was really rainy, but the kids still had a great time!  They got lots of extra candy from people because I think they felt so bad that they were out in the rain!

After an hour of rainy trick-or-treating, we came home to warm jammies, a movie, and a few treats from our candy buckets!

Pre-Halloween Festivities

For one of Erika's last soccer practices of the season, the girls and their siblings (and parents) are invited to dress up in costume and we have a kids versus parents game.  It was so much fun!  Laurel and Levi were so excited to be part of the fun, although Laurel was disappointed that she didn't score.  It was extremely chaotic and tricky to play with so many small, fast, short people who would surround you like bees whenever you had the ball.  But, the parents prevailed, 3-1.

After the game, we handed out candy to all the kids.  That was probably their favorite part!

Wednesday before Halloween, I helped in Laurel's classroom for their harvest party.  We had a great time making a spider craft, playing games, and eating!
